Targeting your customers

Who is your target audience?

Knowing who your customers are, is essential to any business. If you don’t know who they are, how do you know what they want, or how to target them with your product or service?

Is your business a B2B (business to business) or a B2C (business to consumer) type? Knowing who your audience is is vital.

I have over 30 years of commercial experience in sales and as such, I have an in-depth knowlege how to find out about your customers, taking into account, the demographics of age, locations, industry, etc.

I am also proficient in knowing how to target these customers online using various methods:

Pay per click (PPC)

You get what you pay for.

Pay Per Click or PPC as it is often referred to, is a method by which your advert is typically placed at the top of a page or listing and every time someone clicks on your advert, then you have to pay the website owner a small fee.

This method of advertising is efficient in that you only pay for genuine enquiries and interested people rather than paying for a service which has more of a scatter approach.

Google Ads is a typical PPC method, with companies paying for clicks on certain search words or key phrases. The competition for popular keywords can get fierce and as the popularity of a keyword increases, so does the price.

I can help you to navigate this potentially expensive method of marketing with careful selection of targeted keywords and key phrases which will generate leads, but within your budget.

Facebook

In with the in-crowd

Facebook arguably is one of the largest social media platforms in the world today. With over 3 billion users worldwide and used by over 140 million businesses to advertise. Therefore it is no surprise that this represents a massive opportunity for B2C businesses.

What Facebook does so well is create online communities which in the past and to a lesser degree now was catered for by website forums. These communities help people with common beliefs, likes or interests to come together and share information and stories.

Companies therefore create communities around their products or services and the great power of social media allows people who ‘like’ that product, service or company to share this with their friends and therefore grow the company’s following.

Facebook also allows advertising campaigns which can target very specific types of user. This method of advertising can be very cost effective as it can target the most likely people who might then go on to buy or simply share your advert with their friends.

YouTube

Watch this space..

Video sharing websites such as YouTube and Vimeo are the fastest growing social media channels in the world.

With over 1 billion hours of video viewed per day and 90% of users saying that they discover new brands or products on YouTube, it is no wonder that this is the second largest social media platform in the world.

Using YouTube, many companies create advertising videos or Video Logs (VLOGS) to showcase their offerings. From new launches, instructional videos, fly on the wall insights or simply following a ‘day in the life’, there are many ways to grow your presence on video sharing sites such as YouTube or Vimeo.

Video advertising

More affordable than ever.

Video advertising is an effective way to introduce your business to potential new customers. People do not necessarily want to sit and read lots and lots of information about a business or product, so a video is often far more appealing.

It can be a great method of getting your marketing message across in as little time as a few seconds.

I have made many videos for my website customers and you can click on the video to the right for an example of one of the videos that I have created:

X (Formerly Twitter)

Tweet tweet.

X (formally Twitter) is generally more aimed at mobile users who want to share information quickly. With each ‘Tweet’ limited to 140 characters, it is essential to be efficient with your message, but messages can easily reach millions of users.

Businesses use X (formally Twitter) to directly reach their customers by having 2-way interaction instantly, providing an excellent way of providing great customer service.

With millions of users using X on their mobile devices, it is easily one of the fastest and most effective ways to find new potential customers and promote your brand.

Other social media platforms

Staying social.

There is an ever growing and evolving array of social media platforms and knowing which ones to use to promote and grow your business is key to keeping costs as low as possible. Having too many social media accounts can also mean that you are spending more time on telling people about your business than actually running it!

Here are a few more of the more popular social media platforms that could be considered as a good way to market your company, service or products:

1Instagram

Instagram is a social media platform that allows users to share photos and videos, add captions, engage with others and share these photos or videos with like-minded users.

2Pinterest

Pinterest is a social network where people can find inspiration and ideas for their interests and hobbies. Every idea is represented by a Pin, which is an image that is searched and saved by Pinterest users. Pins can also link back to websites, which is why Pinterest is great for driving traffic and sales.

3LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social network specifically designed for career and business professionals to connect. LinkedIn is ideal for building connections for freelance work, potential partners, or to find new potential customers if you are a B2B business.
